Janiecia when first arrested |
Janiecia was 23 in March 2015 when she went out for the night with some friends, including Curtia Reed, to the Elks Pride of St. Lucie No. 1189 in the 2400 block of Avenue M in Fort Pierce, Florida. An argument between a group of girls and the crew Janiecia and Curtia were with broke out, and they were all thrown out of the bar.
According to the two news reports I could scavenge up, Janiecia and Curtia pull up in front of the car full of the other girls and opened fire. Tonya Oliver was sitting in the passenger seat. She was shot in the head and although she survived, she was never the same and eventually died years later.
Bobby McMillan, who was in the car with Janiecia and Curtia Reed and was dating Reed, testified that Reed stopped her car in front of the parked car in which Oliver was in the front passenger seat. He said Reed and Briggs began firing through the side windows of Reed's car into the windshield of the other car.
They were arrested 3 days later. Janiecia received 45 years in prison. Mrs. Oliver died while she was serving her time or she would have been charged with life.
Her letter was very sad. She does have remorse but she has a very different story than what I could find online. I wrote her back and asked her a few questions that I hope she answers.
Make sure to watch the video to see how she explains her crimes.

ReplyDeleteI knew Ms. Briggs. She was a very cool chick! We were work friends. She was always so very kind to me. I was completely thrown off When all this happened. I remember this very vividly. When she was 1st accused I reached out to her on Facebook. She told me that day that what happened was portrayed very differently by the news. Obviously none of us were there that night we could not say for sure what went down. And somebody did lose their life. But what I can't say is, Janiecia Was always a hard working mother, girlfriend, and friend. She was one of those people that if you Showed up to work in a bad mood she would try to cheer you up. And loves her kids more than anything in the world. She talked about them everyday. I hadn't known her for very long like I said we were only work friends. But I knew her long enough to get a sense of her personality and what happened the night that caused her that caused her long incarceration, was, in my opinion 100% out of character. I look miss Briggs up every couple years to see how she's doing. And found this article uponMy search this time. So I figured I'd give you my 2 cents. What happened that night was a tragedy for both the girl that wasShot. And for miss Briggs and her entire family. The sad fact is there was kids affected on each side of this. And no matter how you feel about the crime committed, You have to at least hold sympathy in the fact that 2 sets of children have lost them mother.
